Pale Beardtongue likes drier soils; rocky, gravel or sand, and blooms earlier than most other Penstemons. The whole plant is covered in soft white hairs. Penstemon's tubular flowers are a favorites of long-tongued bees such as bumblebees, carpenter bees, and mason bees. Deer and rabbits generally do not show much interest in Penstemon species.
