A stouter and hairier relative of the popularĀ Ohio Spiderwort, Prairie Spiderwort is only half the size at only a foot tall, making it the shortest of the three Tradescantia species native to the Midwest. While Prairie Spiderwort thrives best in a sandy, sunny prairie, it has occasionally been recorded in wetter sites. Its flower color, similar to that of theĀ Western Spiderwort, is often more purple to magenta as opposed to blue. Also aptly named Long-bracted Spiderwort, its large, hairy bracts contrast the slender leaves of the two other species.
