Commonly called ox eye, early sunflower, or false sunflower. it is an upright, clump-forming, sunflower-like, short-lived perennial that blooms profusely through the summer. Tolerates a wide range of soils, including poor, infertile ones. Readily self-seeds. Plant grows 3-4' tall.
