Sampson's Snakeroot is a member of the pea family and has characteristic trifoliate leaves and flowers held in a raceme. The purple flowers can be in bloom for three months. Reaching about a foot in height, this plant has been used as a ground cover and erosion control in well drained areas. Sampson's Snakeroot is native to the south eastern region of the US, but has been found as far north as Michigan.
